It’s hard to believe it’s already 2014 and the beginning of a new year. At the Museum we have even more to be excited about because this year marks Britannia Beach’s 110th anniversary. We’re busy organizing events and exhibits to commemorate the big year and bring people together to share old stories and learn new ones. Whether Britannia was your physical home, the home of someone you loved, you feel a connection to the community or you just want to learn more about us, we hope you’ll be able to come out and enjoy our special events.
You can find more information on our website as it becomes available.
Celebrating 110 Years: Photo Exhibit
The museum has over 9,500 archival photographs and we’ve chosen 110 of the best to print on wood and install in the Conveyor Shed in the Spring. These photos (many which have never before been released to the public) will help illustrate the storied history of Britannia.
Best of Britannia: Life in a Company Town
We’re digging deep into the collections and pulling artefacts, artwork and photographs that we think represent the Best of Britannia. Opening June 28 in the Machine Shop, selected objects will be supplemented with stories that are bizarre, poignant or even troubling to show how Britannia’s residents lived, worked and played. We’re encouraging visitors to consider what they think is the “Best of Britannia” and include their thoughts in the exhibit.
Homecoming Weekend – June 27-29, 2014

Celebrating 110 Years at Canada Day – July 1, 2014
The public is invited to celebrate Canada and Britannia Beach’s birthday together. In addition to the usual museum activities that include the Underground Train and Tour, Gold Panning and Britannia A to Z Historical Exhibit, visitors will have a chance to participate in a free special presentation of our popular interactive program, “Live, Work, Play”. Visitors can pick up free Canada day pins and flags and explore our two temporary exhibitions, “Best of Britannia: Life in a Company Town” in the Machine Shop and “Celebrating 110 Years: Photo Exhibit” in the Conveyor Shed.
