started in 1949. The recipes have been posted exactly as written originally, so proceed with caution but have fun!
Carmen Baird's Meatballs and Spaghetti recipe was submitted for the Oct. 31, 1949 edition.
1 lb ground beef
½ cup chopped onion
1 cup chopped celery
½ pkg spaghetti
Tomato soup or tomato sauce for sauce
1 cup grated cheese
Season meat with salt, chilli and pepper. Shape into small balls. Fry in hot skillet till brown.
Add onions, celery, tomato sauce and cooked spaghetti.
Simmer 20 to 25 minutes. Add ½ cup cheese. Turn into casserole and sprinkle with remaining cheese.
Brown in hot oven and serve with any crisp salad.
