Winter has Arrived

Posted on Thursday, December 11, 2014 by Michael Wilcox - Lead Interpreter, Programming

We have had our first snow fall of the year and another winter season is upon us. You step outside and feel the crispness on your face. Snow softly crunches under heavy boots. It's dark but there is a freshness in the air. Trees are decorated with fluffy white bliss. Everything is serene. It's the first sign that Christmas is coming, and I for one, love it! I may only be 30, but after the first snowfall of the year, priority number one is make either a snow fort or a snow man. I can't imagine that ever changing.

I think when you consider life in a mining community such as Britannia, hard images come to mind. Mining can be dangerous, but perhaps this serious work left the workers craving something simple, something joyous. Winter is filled with smiles, laughter and the company of good friends and family. It's a time when we can put aside seriousness, and let ourselves be goofy. It's a time for fun. This was a fun place, and I hope you see that is some of our archival photos below.
