At the Museum

It is Britannia Mine Museum's objective to make its site as accessible as possible. However, since this is an actual industrial site from the early 1900's, not all areas are yet wheelchair accessible. We are working to re-structure many areas and make them more wheelchair accessible. Our ongoing efforts will continue in this direction.

Currently, the Museum is accessible to wheelchairs in the following areas:

  1. The Beaty Lundin Vistor Centre. Includes the theater, interactive exhibits and "Natures Art" mineral gallery.
  2. The Britannia A-Z Exhibit Hall. Exhibits of Britannia, its history and pioneers.
  3. The Gold Panning Pavilion.
  4. The Company Store.
  5. Parking lot. Disability parking to the left of the entrance plaza, handy to Company Store and ticket window.
  6. Majority of washrooms.

Limited wheelchair access in the following areas. Accessibility dependent on mobility levels:

  1. Underground guided tour into the mine tunnel. 48 steps lead to activity, much uneven gravel throughout.
  2. Access to the historic Mill building is possible with a walker, although surface is uneven gravel, not pavement.
  3. The Machine Shop by way of pavement slabs and uneven gravel and a few stairs. A ramp allows access to the Temporary Exhibit area.
  4. Entrance to the Assay Building snack bar and Movie Hall of Fame photo gallery.
