Historic Buildings

At the Museum

No less than 21 historic buildings and structures are in our care. Even our newest building went up back in 1951 while the oldest was built in 1905. From the landmark Mill Building to the inconspicuous pump house, each one has a story to tell. Throughout Britannia Beach, you'll see other historic structures that are still standing. All serve as a reminder of what was once of the greatest mining towns in BC.

How the future generations will know

Maintaining buildings from the past century is no simple job. Not in our climate. But it's often the best way that young visitors can grasp a past way of life. Fortunately, capital funds are established for building preservation, restoration and rehabilitation. For more information about terms relating to heritage buildings, please visit Heritage BC.
