Homeschool and Bubble Education Field Trips

New for 2020-2021 we are offering programs for homeschool classes and small bubbles who would like to enhance their school curriculum. We can help with two of the Grade 5 Science Big Ideas - Earth Materials and Solutions.

Through exploring the exhibits, activities and site features, you can discover our relationship with Earth Materials. This can help teach the following Big Idea in the Grade 5 science curriculum of BC.

Earth materials change as they move through the rock cycle and can be used as natural resources.

Your visit to the museum will help answer questions such as; What are Earth Materials? How do we interact with Earth Materials? and How can we change our relationship with Earth Materials to be better stewards of the environment?

Included in your admission to the museum are the following - Guided tour of the underground (Copper quest) and BOOM!, self-exploration of the site and exhibits, a homeschool visit support package, gold panning and a choice of one 30 minute session from the following:

Earthly Explorers

Have you ever seen a dinosaur footprint fossil? How do such fossils form and what can they tell us?  Join us for Earthly Explorers' as we uncover the story of our dinosaur footprint and how the stories of rocks reveal the geological timeline of our planet. This session also includes free time to uncover the secrets of a variety of rocks and minerals selected to help understand earth materials and the rock cycle. This program, and the rocks and minerals used, are hosted in our Geolab which is not a publicly accessible space.

WHAT is a SOLUTION?

Chemical solutions surround us. The atmosphere is a solution, sea water is a solution, our blood and saliva are solutions, and many minerals form from solutions, but what are they? In this short program, the fundamental properties of solutions will be explored through a look at some common ones. From this foundation, we will explore how solutions are one method by which minerals are transported and redeposited around our planet (solutions play a role in the rock cycle).

This program will help teach another of the Grade 5 Science Big Ideas – Solutions are Homogeneous.

Regular rates apply but don't forget you get a wonderful support package and a 30 minute additional session with one of our educators for the price! This session includes time to pick the brains of our Interpreters on questions you may have about the topics you encounter on your visit. Admission rates can be found here. If you are a member of the Britannia Mine Museum your entry is free and the additional sessions are $10 per person. Please fill in the form below or contact bookings@bcmm.ca or 604-896-2233 ext.228 to make Homeschool & Bubble Education Field Trip reservation.
