The last shift whistle blew for 3 seconds on November 1, 1974, ending the 50-year legacy of the Britannia Mine. This video highlights how workers responded to the Mine's closure.
The Museum opened on May 19, 1975. Here we see guests arriving on the Royal Hudson train for the Museum's opening day celebrations.
After recording breaking rainfall in August 1991, Britannia and surrounding communities experience devastating floods that wash out parts of the BC railway and close the highway for days.
In May 1992, the community comes together to celebrate the start of another season at the Museum. We welcome the arrival of the new WABCO truck, host a fundraising rock auction, and recognize people who are instrumental to the Museum's success.

The Administration building has moved numerous times since the Museum's inception. During the summer of 2010, we move it to its current location along the highway.
Mill No.3, a National Historic Site, has graced the Sea-to-Sky Highway for over 100 years, and it’s always exciting to see how it transforms into different fictional worlds, providing a unique backdrop for film and television storytelling.
