Although we do not take provisional bookings, we can make a note of the dates you are interested in and give you 48 hours to check whether you can secure a bus.
Payment for all field trips is due at time of arrival and can be paid at the admission’s office. Payment can be made with a credit card or cheque. A Booking Confirmation with the amount owing is emailed to you when you have confirmed your booking. This can be used as an invoice for your school. Please note that we are not able to refund if you have less students than your cheque is made out for.
Elementary schools and daycares require a 1:6 adult ratio and secondary schools a 1:10 adult ratio.

We require a minimum of 15 students for all our school programs.
You can choose between 9:45 am or 10:15 am. The program Volcanic Origins, which if booked individually, has an exceptional arrival time at 9:00 am.
For classrooms totaling 32 students or more, we are able to conduct two programs. However, the duration of the different programs has to be the same.
We can accommodate a total group size of 144 including all students and chaperones. With multi-class bookings the students are rotated through different aspects of the program.
The maximum number in each group is 36 as the train can only accommodate 36 (students + chaperones). Larger groups are divided into multiples of 36.
The minimum program length which has to be booked is 2 hours with the arrival time at 9:45 am or 10:15 am. On top of this time we will always add 15 minutes orientation for you to disembark, pay and use the washrooms.
For groups as big as a Triple (72-108) you require a minimum program length of 2.5 hours to allow for program rotation and for groups as big as a Quad (108-144) you require a minimum program duration of 3 hours.
If you only want to book the Volcanic Origins session (60 minutes) your arrival time is set to 9:00 am.
Yes. Our large parking lot includes a pull-in for buses to stop and passengers to disembark. The buses then park in the bus bays at the rear of the parking lot.
The designated group leader should go to our admissions desk to check in. Our Interpreters assigned to conduct your program will meet you and your students and proceed with the orientation.
Every class is welcome to visit our gift shop. If this is something your students would like to do, please let our Booking Coordinator know so they can add it into your tour schedule and add additional time before the bus pick-up.
Yes! We have cold sandwiches, snacks and drinks available for purchase.
Due to the scheduling of other programs, your class must depart at the designated departure time found on your confirmation document.
If you have booked Gold Panning, and the weather is severely cold then we offer the option of Exhibit Time in lieu of Gold Panning.
Teachers who pay annual fees to the BC TRB may visit the Britannia Mine Museum to plan your field trip any time. Present your ID at admissions to gain entry (2 free general admission visits per year). Special events are not included in this offer. Please note other than BOOM! and Copper Quest our educational programs are not available to the general public. If you wish to talk with someone from the education department when you are here just let us know.
Yes we recommend you watch it prior to your field trip. “Groundbreaking – The Britannia Mine Story” is available online so you can watch it in your classroom. It can be found here.
