Our Spring break special program, "Whatever Happened to Mt. Sheer?"— is back due to popular demand! It provides visitors with an engaging look at the historic mining townsite hidden deep in the mountains above Britannia Beach.
Plus, our brand new program, "Britannia Before Rail and Road" provides visitors with an insight into what it must have been like to get to work. The limitation that came with the lack of transportation to Britannia. A Trip to Vancouver was no easy feat!

This Summer Step Back in Time and learn about the journey to Britannia by boat.
Journey through the rich maritime history of Britannia Beach in this immersive storytelling experience. Discover how steamships once brought life, labour, and leisure to the Howe Sound, turning the pier into the town’s beating heart.
From lively arrivals to quiet goodbyes, uncover the stories of those who came seeking opportunity—and those who never left.
With rare footage, vivid narration, and powerful stories of community and resilience, this program brings Britannia’s past to life—not just as a mine, but as a lifeline shaped by the tides.
Whatever happened to Mt. Sheer?

This Summer Step Back in Time and learn about the Mt. Sheer Townsite.
Life in a remote mining town wasn’t easy. Living in Britannia or Mt. Sheer meant isolation from the outside world while working for the Mining Company. From 1904 to 1974, over 60,000 people from 50+ countries called this place home.
But what happened to Mt. Sheer? Where are the houses, the school, the church? What was life like there? Can we still visit?
Join our interpreter-led program to uncover the story of Mt. Sheer. This drop-in program is included with admission!
Chemistry of Cleanup

Summer at Britannia Mine Museum is getting a little dirtier—but a little dirt never hurt! Join us for Chemistry of Cleanup at our Terra Lab STEAM space, where our interpreters will lead hands-on activities about environmental remediation.
