Britannia Beach, BC (October 3, 2025) – The Britannia Mine Museum is embracing the magic of Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) this Halloween season with a vibrant twist of culture and colour to celebrate a joyful Mexican holiday that honours life, memory, and community. Because Dia de los Muertos falls on November 1 and 2, the Museum will run the celebration over three weekends on October 18 & 19, October 25 & 26, and November 1 & 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Rooted in Mexican heritage, Día de los Muertos is a joyful celebration of life and memory —honouring loved ones who have passed, while embracing the beauty of their stories. This year’s festive and family-friendly celebration brings together the spirit of the Halloween season with the rich traditions of Día de los Muertos through inclusive, educational, and artistic programming.
During the special Halloween weekends, the Museum will have Día de Los Muertos underground tours, where a guide will lead visitors on a journey to gather the four essential elements—earth, fire, air, and water—to explore the world of “alebrijes”, fantastical creatures inspired by Mexican folk art.
The Museum’s Machine Shop will be transformed into a kaleidoscope fiesta and colourful community, with marigold-lined altars to dancing skeletons and dazzling decorations. Stroll through the Monarch Forest, wander through a Mexican village, and explore the festive Calavera Tunnel. Discover the magic of papier-mâché, learn the meaning behind ofrendas (altars), and celebrate the spirit of remembrance through art and community. Kid-friendly activities include making paper marigold flowers, colouring sugar skulls and a monarch butterfly scavenger hunt.
The Día de Los Muertos special event rate is $25 for visitors under 17, $30 for visitors 18 and up, and children under age four receive free admission. Halloween admission includes the special Día de Los Muertos underground adventure, themed Machine Shop displays and activities, permanent museum exhibits, and gold panning. The Museum is still offering the fully-guided underground tours and the BOOM! Mill show via regular admissions. Halloween event ticket holders can upgrade to include the BOOM! Mill Show for an additional $10.
Located 45 minutes north of Vancouver on the picturesque Sea-to-Sky highway, the Britannia Mine Museum provides unique and memorable experiences that engage visitors of all ages.
