ASSUMPTION OF RISK

Visitors to the Britannia Mine Museum (BMM) assume all risk of personal injury, death or property loss resulting from any cause whatsoever including but not limited to the risks, dangers or hazards from being on an historic industrial mining site, travel within or beyond the public site boundaries, breach of contract or breach of statutory duty of care on the part of the BMM. The BMM collectively refers to the BMM, the Britannia Mine Museum Society (BMS) and their employees, agents, independent contractors, subcontractors, representatives, successors, sponsors and assigns. Visitors agree that any litigation involving BMM shall be solely within the Province of British Columbia and its courts and shall be governed by and interpreted solely in accordance to its laws.

COVID-19

We ask that schools do their own Covid-19 symptom check with your students prior to arriving and ask that any staff or student with symptoms or has travelled outside of the country within the last 14 days stays home. We request that you respect staff and other guests and maintain physical distancing from other groups. Masks are required.

CHANGES TO BOOKING

Change of Date: More than 4 weeks’ notice are required otherwise cancellation fees apply.
Number Increases: Requests for an increase in numbers are based on availability.  Group sizes are based on the underground train capacity of 25 seats.

Reduction In Numbers: In response to Covid-19 and to encourage checking for symptoms and staying home if you are experiencing symptoms, there will be no penalty for a reduction in numbers. A minimum of 15 students will be charged if numbers drop below 15.

CANCELLATIONS

You must give more than 4 weeks’ written notice for no penalty. Anything less than 4 weeks will result in the following cancellation charges.

Between 2 and 4 weeks’ notice:  The cancellation Fee is 50% of booking value.

Less than 2 weeks’ notice:   The cancellation fee is 100% of the booking value.

ON TIME ARRIVAL AND NO SHOWS

You will be charged 100% of the booking value for no shows.

If you are running late please contact us at 604.896.2233 ext. 0 or 1.800.896.4044 ext. 0. Components of your program will likely have to be cut if you arrive late. If early, we request that your group waits until your pre-booked arrival time to enter the museum.

ADULT SUPERVISION

Chaperones: Supervisors are to keep students under control and follow the instructions of our staff. Chaperones must be 19+ years of age. With physical distancing and in the times of Covid it is of great importance that children are not allowed to run around the site and keep their distance from the staff. Our ratio of free adults to students, as well as our mandatory adults ratio per group is; Elementary 1:6 and Secondary 1:10. If these ratios are not possible please contact us to discuss.

Extra Adult over Free Ratio: There is no limit on the number of adults you may bring over and above the free adult ratio. Our discounted group rate of $30.75 + tax applies to each extra adult above the free adult ratio. Depending on numbers, extra adults may need to join a public underground tour rather than the school underground group.

EXTREME WINTER WEATHER/ROAD CONDITIONS

In cases of extreme winter weather, if snow or ice is safely navigable and roads are treated sufficiently (gritted/plowed), then Britannia Mine Museum (BMM) expects schools to come on their booked date.
Please visit Drive BC for up to date conditions. Britannia Mine Museum bases its decisions if the road is safe/open or not on this website.
If roads are impassable or dangerous, then BMM will not charge the Cancellation Fee or No Show Fee, and will rebook you to a later available date.
1-2 days before, if extreme conditions are forecast, likely to mean roads will be impassable or dangerous, do contact our Groups & Education Booking Coordinator about rearranging the date. We will not cancel or reschedule bookings more than 2 days out due to weather as forecasts are known to change.
If a school decides not to come on their booked date, even though the road is safely navigable, then Britannia Mine Museum will charge the Cancellation Fee or No Show Fee, which is payment in full.

BOOKINGS INCLUDING GOLD PANNING – SEVERELY COLD WEATHER

Exhibit Time will be offered in lieu of Gold Panning in severely cold weather.

UNFORESEEN EVENTS

Operational Issues: In the event of unlikely but unforeseen operational issues at the Britannia Mine Museum, where a visit would pose a risk to visitors, staff or property/equipment, Museum Management reserve the right to cancel or change components of a booking at any time. Should this happen, your field trip price will be waived or refunded. Britannia Mine Museum will not be responsible for any costs incurred by the school should we have to change or cancel a booking due to unforeseen operational issues.
Forest Fires: If a road is closed due to a forest fire, the same policies as for extreme weather will apply. Please visit Drive BC for up to date conditions. Britannia Mine Museum bases its decisions if the road is safe/open or not on this website. If roads are impassable or dangerous, then BMM will not charge the Cancellation Fee or No Show Fee, and will re-book you to a later available date. If the road is open and safe according to Drive BC we to expect schools to come on their booked date.
Covid-19: Should your School District or Board of Directors choose to not allow field trips within BC we will allow schools to cancel or move their booking with no fee. Until you School District implies such regulations our regular cancellation policy will apply.
