This Halloween, Monster Machines are taking over Britannia Mine Museum, bringing plenty of mischief, delightful surprises, and family fun along the way.
From the historic underground tunnel to the Machine Shop, discover playful monsters inspired by the real machines that have played an essential role in both historic and modern mining operations.
Meet the monsters, uncover the stories behind the machines, and follow the Halloween fun above and below ground.

A SPECIAL HALLOWEEN UNDERGROUND TOUR
This Halloween, Britannia’s machines are getting into trouble and causing a little mischief!
Put on your hard hat and climb aboard the underground train for a special Big Machines, Monster Fun Underground Tour, where unusual machine malfunctions have been reported throughout the historic tunnel.
With help from your Machine Operator, discover how real mining equipment worked through live demonstrations, hands-on challenges, and problem-solving. Learn how miners used compressed air, transportation systems, machinery, and teamwork to keep Britannia operating. After your underground adventure, enjoy timed access to the BOOM! show with your group.
Expect plenty of discovery, monster mischief, and a few surprises along the way.
Accessibility note: This special tour includes lower lighting, interactive Halloween elements, and live mining equipment demonstrations. The experience is designed to be playful and family-friendly.
MEET THE MONSTER MACHINES
Head into the Machine Shop to discover our six Monster Machines, each inspired by real equipment used in both historic and modern mining operations.
From cranes and drills to trucks and other heavy machinery, each monster has a personality connected to the role its machine plays.
Look closely, discover the equipment behind the characters, and learn how machines have supported mining operations at Britannia and continue to shape the industry today.
*This special display will be available during opening hours before and after your guided tour. Your Halloween visit also includes access to the Museum's regular exhibits and experiences.
FOLLOW THE MONSTER MISCHIEF THROUGHOUT THE MUSEUM
Get hands-on with the Monster Scavenger Hunt, Monster Machine Colouring, and live science demonstrations including Exploding Pumpkins and Magnetic Slime - all bringing together discovery, learning, and a little Halloween mischief!
